Phil Iwasaki Entertainment Welcomes The Larry Griffith Project To Our Family

Phil Iwasaki Entertainment Is Proud To Welcome The Larry Griffith Project To Our Family.

Larry Griffith, born in Cincinnati, Ohio, is a remarkable Guitarist/Vocalist who was drawn to music at an early age with blues, gospel, soul and jazz literally trembling the three-tier apartment where he resided .At the age of nine, Larry began picking up a pen and copying lyrics from such storytellers as Willie Dixon, Bob Dylan, Laura Nero, Billy Strayhorn and countless others.

Later, after moving to the Walnut Hills section of Cincinnati, home of legendary King Records, he was drawn to the talents of greats like Freddie King, Bill Doggett, Hank Ballard, Ivory Joe Hunter, and even the Godfather of Soul himself, James Brown. Jimi Hendrix’s Band of Gypsys had a profound effect on Larry because of the way Jimi married sonic sounds with futuristic, introspective lyrics.  It was also around this time that he fell into a lifelong love with the lyrical phrasing of John Coltrane.

Larry had become one of the top drummers on the blues scene, having been a durable side man for Taj Mahal, Sean Costello, Susan Tedeschi, Chick Willis, Bob Margolin and others, but “THE DREAM”, which he experienced three nights in a row while in Clarksdale, MS, of ripping it up on guitar in a delta juke joint in a backwoods motel, would be the game changer in his career, influencing him to convert from drums to guitar.
